US-Präsident Donald Trump hat erklärt, dass Russlands Staatschef Wladimir Putin angeblich die Entsendung europäischer Friedenstruppen in die Ukraine als Teil einer möglichen Vereinbarung zur Beendigung des Krieges akzeptieren würde.

Nun verkündet Trump auch noch, dass er sich diese oder nächste Woche mit dem ukrainischen Präsidenten Wolodymyr Selenskyj treffen will. Dabei wird es auch um eine Abmachung zum US-Zugang zu in der Ukraine lagernden Rohstoffen gehen, die Selenskyj persönlich unterzeichnen wolle, sagte Trump am Rande eines Besuches von Frankreichs Staatschef Emmanuel Macron.

Dieser zeigt sich wiederum nach dem Gespräch in Washington betont optimistisch: Es gebe "substanzielle Fortschritte". Beide Staatschefs glauben an eine baldige Feuerpause.

Now Trump is also announcing that he wants to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week or next. It will also be about an agreement on US access to raw materials stored in Ukraine, which Zelenskyi wants to sign personally, Trump said on the sidelines of a visit to Washington by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The latter, in turn, was emphatically optimistic after the talks, saying that “substantial progress” had been made. Both heads of state believe in a ceasefire in the near future.
