- Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (d. 1881, Selânik – ö. 10 Kasım 1938, İstanbul), Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin ilk cumhurbaşkanı olan Türk mareşal ve devlet adamıdır. 1919 yılında başlattığı Ulusal Kurtuluş Mücadelesi'nin önderliğini yapmış; daha sonra, modern Türkiye'yi oluşturan devrim ve reformları gerçekleştirmiştir. Atatürk became known as an extremely capable military officer during World War I.[1] Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in WWI, he led the Turkish national movement in the Turkish War of Independence. Having established a provisional government in Ankara, he defeated the forces sent by the Allies. His military campaigns succeeded in gaining Turkey independence. Atatürk then embarked upon a program of political, economic, and cultural reforms, seeking to transform the former Ottoman Empire into a modern and secular nation-state. The principles of Atatürk's reforms, upon which modern Turkey was established, are referred to as Kemalism.
